Welcome to Galleri Fotfolket, Stockholm’s public space gallery!
Galleri Fotfolket is a gallery that only exists in the public space; in the streets, parks, squares and on the internet. The gallery consists of two boxes, on each side of the box there is an opening into a room where the art is placed. The gallery has eight exhibition spaces measuring 80x80x15 cm.
Galleri Fotfolket was started in April 2012 by artist Sanna-Lisa Gesang-Gottowt and had its first show in May 2012. The idea to start the gallery was born from frustration with the difficulty of being artistically involved in the city itself. Sanna-Lisa has been interested in issues surrounding the public space for some time, its limitations and opportunities inspired this project. Stockholm city has a zero tolerance policy against graffiti and street art which further complicates issues surrounding art in the public space. The gallery is a way for artists to legally show their work in the public space.
Galleri Fotfolkets main intent is to show varied and interesting art and to further democracy. The gallery hopes to raise questions and thoughts surrounding art in the public space as well as being a part of the ongoing debate surrounding street art. Galleri Fotfolket wants to be by and for those who use the public space.
